Your dryer takes two cycles now. You have started running it twice without thinking about it, and you have probably decided the machine is getting old. Ninety percent of the time the machine is fine.

A dryer works by moving hot air through wet clothes and pushing the moisture outside. The lint screen catches what it can, but the fine stuff goes past it and settles along the duct in the wall, and lint is an insulator that also narrows the pipe. Restrict the airflow and the machine cannot get the water out, so it runs and runs. The clothes are not drying slower. The moisture has nowhere to go.

Cleaning the vent is a length problem, which is why the rod is thirty feet. The lint that matters is not at the wall opening you can see, it is halfway along a run that may go under a floor or up through a storey. Segments that join and flex let you follow the bend, and putting a drill on the end spins the brush so it lifts lint off the pipe wall instead of compacting it into a plug ahead of you.

That direction is the one thing to get right. Go in from the outside vent where you can, so what comes loose falls out of the building rather than back towards the machine.

Here is the limit. This is a job, not a gadget. It takes the better part of an hour, it will make a mess, and you will need to pull the dryer out. If that is not something you are going to do, the honest answer is to pay someone rather than to own this.

It also does not help with a blocked or badly fitted flap at the outside end, which is the other common cause and needs a look outdoors, not a brush.

And it is not a fix for a run that is genuinely too long or has too many bends. Some installs are wrong from the day they were built, and no amount of cleaning makes a bad duct into a good one.
