Car carpet is the worst surface in your life for pet hair. The fibres are short, dense and bonded to the floor, and anything wound down into them is staying there. A shop vacuum will not lift it. Neither will yours. Suction takes what is loose, and hair wound down into the pile is not loose.

A lint roller fails the other way. Adhesive lifts only what it touches, and it touches the tips. The hair underneath never meets it.

This is a small rubber-edged tool you drag across the carpet. The rubber catches the hair that is wound down in the pile and lifts it out in ropes ahead of the edge. You pick the ropes off with two fingers and drag again.

It is manual, it is slow, and your forearm will know about it afterwards. What it has instead is reach: it fits the footwell edges and the seat rails where anything full-sized cannot go, which is where the hair actually is. A full-sized rubber brush clears open carpet faster, so if the hair is on the seats and not in the seams, buy that instead.

It only does hair. Sand and grit are still the vacuum's job, and the ropes it gathers you still pick up by hand. Check your footwells before you order. If they are under all-weather liners there is nothing in there for a rubber edge to hold, and the carpet you are actually buying this for is the part under the seats.
