Cordless hand vacuums usually fail on the exact surface you bought one for. They glide across a cushion, lift the loose hair sitting on top, and leave the embedded hair precisely where it was, because suction on its own cannot pull fur out of a weave that is gripping it.

Nothing else in the house closes that gap. A lint roller takes the top layer and stops. A rubber brush drags fur out of the weave, but it leaves a pile you still have to collect, and on stairs there is nowhere to pile it. The big vacuum has the power and a hose you have to haul upstairs, so most weeks you do not.

This one has a motorised brush head. Something is physically agitating the fabric while the suction works, and that is the whole difference. It is why it gets stairs, car seats and cushions when a plain handheld just hums over them.

Two things stop that working. Pressure is one: push the head hard into a cushion and the loaded brush plows hair instead of flicking it loose. Let it rest and move slowly. The brush is the other. Fur wraps around anything that spins, and a wrapped brush agitates nothing. Clear it before you decide the machine died.

The limit is runtime and bin size, and both are smaller than you want. This is a tool for one room, or one car, in a sitting. It is not a whole-house vacuum and buying it as one will disappoint you. Expect to empty it more often than feels reasonable, because a full bin chokes the airflow that carries away what the brush loosens.

If nothing in your house sheds, a plain handheld does everything you need. The brush is the only reason to pick this over one, and it only earns that against fur that is dug in. Check what you would point it at, too: a spinning brush belongs on tight upholstery, not on loose loops, fringe or a knit throw.

Used for what it actually is, it is the handheld that earns its shelf space.
